the chicken with broccoli with steamed rice is the best, most comforting meal! You can customize your spice level in an authentically Asian way, I find that they make medium spicy with a good kick. The service is always warm here and the complimentary tea that comes out on being seated is a very nice touch. Yunnan is that consistent, casual neighborhood restaurant that keeps you coming back

Always love this place. My favorite thing to get is the mushroom appetizer which you order a plate of from the cold dish area. It's just thinly sliced boiled mushroom in some oil but I have a severe addiction to it. It's always nice to get some delicious authentic stuff over here though, one out of the two restaurants that get my family's approval. But, for those looking for a more Americanized experience they've got stuff for you too, not to worry. But they're a bit understaffed at times and it's abundantly clear on holidays like Christmas or Chinese New Years when either sitting inside or having to go will eat up a good chunk of your time and patience. But staff has always been friendly, you get to know the few people quite well eventually haha. Do not make the mistake like I did and wait outside the bathroom for a few minutes and embarrassingly hold up a line. If at first you don't succeed, give it a hard yank. The bathroom door will fool the meek into believing it is locked when it is simply a little stuck. I am the meek.

Have been to Yunnan Restaurant now a few times, and every time the food has been great! You can tell this place serves very authentic Chinese food, along with classic American Chinese dishes as well. They have a huge menu with lots of variety for everyone. The service is always fast, attentive, and friendly. My wife and I have tried a few options but some of our favorites have been the orange chicken, lamb with cumin, garlic cabbage, and the hot and sour soup (not pictured). My only reason for giving this spot 4/5 stars is I wish the menu noted more of the ingredients that came in the dishes as my wife and I have some dietary restrictions, and I wish I knew before ordering some dishes and having to send it back not knowing what fully was included. Also, the times we have been it has been uncomfortable warm inside for my preference. Excited to be coming back and trying new dishes!

This was really a great surprise. The dumplings popped with juicy goodness. The hot and sour soup was enormous, we felt like we didn't even make a dent it, but so good! Our server was great and took good care of us. It's funny, it has a feel of both a sit down restaurant and a take out place.

One of the authentic Chinese restaurants in the area. Loved everything that we ordered that night. Our favorite was the pan fried dumplings that we ordered one more portion after we quickly finished the first order. The portions were generous with great service! Will return when I have the craving for some Chinese food again soon!

11/30/2024: came here for the first time with a friend who lives in the area. I was visiting and craving something "noodly" and Yelp recommend Yunnan! It looked pretty good, was so close by.. and when I saw they also have locations in Monterey Park I felt good about this choice! The place is small, but the menu options are extensive. They even have a freezer when you walk in where you can purchase various dumplings to take home to cook! There is a large cold item "salad bar" at the counter that's not listed in the menu. We were given a few things from the bar to sample, and every item was so tasty! For our first time, we chose the Salt & Pepper Chicken Wing appetizer. Generous portion on a platter, the wings were fresh and so crispy! Slightly different flavor profile than some other places I frequent, but still good. We ordered Item 23, the Lo Mein with Beef. Nice and saucy, the beef was tender and it had plenty of vegetables! Great for 2 to share. Item 33, the Green Onion Pancakes were so crisp, the presentation was lovely but on their own they needed a little "something". There was a seasoned vinegar on the table as well as a jar of chili oil.. just a little enhanced the flavor! The setting is very casual. Clean and well lit. The service was friendly and they were helpful to tell us about the menu offerings. I can't wait to come back with a larger group so we can try even more items!

Came here while we were in Simi Valley. It's a bit out of the way since it's in Oak Park (roughly 30 min drive from where I stayed) but the food was good. It's not as good as the other location in MPK, but acceptable. I ordered the hot and sour pork noodle soup and it wasn't as spicy as the MPK location. This may be because the clientele in area don't have the same palette, therefore the spiciness is turned down a notch on all their spicy items. Nonetheless, by the pictures below, the food was delicious.

Feet and hands down Best Chinese restaurant in the west lake/Thousand Oaks area. My girlfriend and I met here for a bite during our time crunch lunch hour. She arrived a bit early and put in our orders a few minutes before i arrived. Coming here for the first time i knew it was a gem telling by their all Asian clientele also getting lunch here. The food was served with a few minutes and looked scrumptious! The portions are hefty and the flavors are incredible given the great ingredients. From everything on the table I think the Szechuan cold noodles were the standout. Their spicy kick did not overpower its other flavors and had great crunchy and fresh veggies sprinkled over the savory noodles. Very fresh entree perfect for the punishing heat. Their soup pork dumplings were also so juicy, steamy and packed with plenty protein. The dough was a bit on the thicker side but very delicious. Side note - they also sell frozen dumplings by the bag in their freezer out front. The restaurant was a special find that gave us all the reasons to return. Their service was amazing, the furniture was clean, and food was amazing. Certainly will try more items on their extensive menu.

Came here around 12:30 pm on a Tuesday for lunch during work. My boyfriend and I met up here. I came a bit early because my lunch hour is more flexible and ordered so it would be ready by the time he came. It wasn't super busy inside, about 4 tables of small groups taken with a few more open. A few Chinese coworkers have mentioned that this is the most authentic Chinese in the area and I would probably agree. I could smell the good food after I parked and was walking up. I was greeted immediately and I said that there would be 2 of us. I ordered at the counter and paid at the counter but you can definitely be sat and your order taken as well I think. My boyfriend pre chose 3 items: sichuan cold noodle (which I got spicy), eggplant with garlic sauce (classic), and Szechuan style braised pork with crepes (more like the foldable buns). I also decided to get xiaolongbao. Total was around $63 without tip but I automatically tipped because I knew it would be good. Food was ready within minutes, much faster than I expected. All the employees were very friendly and quick. They even provided a small bowl of cool dessert as I waited for my partner to show up. The food was still piping hot when he arrived. I was pleasantly surprised with the xiaolongbao. Although the skin wasn't extremely thin, the inside was very juicy and had great savory flavor! The premade soy sauce, sesame oil, and sugar dipping sauce went well with it (a though a bit salty, I usually just prefer black vinegar). I'm sure they hand make all of them because they sell frozen ziplock bags of them for $33. For 50 dumplings, I would definitely buy this bag! Will have to do it when I bring a cooler so they don't melt in the car. The eggplant was delicious. Exactly what I expected and one of my favorite Chinese dishes. Perfectly blistered by a hot wok on the outside and soft and creamy on the inside. The garlic sauce was fantastic and white rice is provided. The Szechuan cold noodle was also delicious. Reminded me of the ones my mom makes, although a bit more oily. Still super refreshing with the carrot and bean sprouts. Very delicious and would get again. My least favorite item was the braised pork but I'm usually not a fan of braised items. The presentation was great. The pickled veg helped cut through the heavy and fatty meat. Just because it was my least favorite, doesn't mean it wasn't delicious. I would get it again if other people were with us but not personally for myself. When we took leftovers home, eating it with cucumber really made me enjoy it more. I'm so happy to have finally tried this place! Will definitely come again for lunch more often and would even take family and guests here on the way to Malibu or Venture/Oxnard.
